- Know Your Make-up

DO YOU KNOW YOUR MAKE-UP?

This tip always gets a laugh in my courses. But I am serious when I ask you the question - do you know how to apply television make-up?

Film yourself without any make-up. What do you see? Blotchy skin? Deep shadows? Red eyes?

Television cameras and studio lighting will do strange things to your face and complexion. Consider taking a short television make-up course so you are DIRECTLY responsible for your appearance - remember a make-up artist is NOT always on location.

This goes for you guys as well. My first director told me that presenters are paid to look better than the average person. A quick dab of make-up will make you look healthier, more professional and a little closer to that flawless look.

Applying make-up in confined spaces, during a rushed shoot schedule, on a plane, while you are sweltering in a desert location is a skill that requires your full attention.
